"No Justice on Stolen Land: Turtle Island occupied since 1565"
Turtle Island is the Indigenous name for so-called North America. The creation story is that there was a great flood and a turtle rose out of the water, and all the living creatures asked the turtle if they could stay on top of it's back. The turtle agreed. This is why the shape of the land resembles a turtle, as emphasised by the artist.
1565 was the first permanent European colony to occupy Turtle Island, in so-called St. Augustine, FL by the Spanish.
