"No Justice on Stolen Land: Turtle Island occupied since 1565"
Turtle Island is the Indigenous name for so-called North America. The creation story is that there was a great flood and a turtle rose out of the water, and all the living creatures asked the turtle if they could stay on top of it's back. The shape of the continent is said to be in the shape of a giant turtle, which the artist drew to highlight how the turtle is seen in the land.
1565 was the first permanent European colony to occupy Turtle Island, being so-called St Augustine, FL by the Spanish.
